The last train pulled out of -- central terminal on Buffalo's east side in October 1979. After years of neglect there is a new plan to breathe life. Into the local landmark and we're going to hear about it today. On the WB Ian -- this morning is smart invidious media relations coordinator for the central terminal restoration corporation. -- Johnson a morning talk about the new vision for the terminal which you can tell us.
Well in the past we've always been looking for the silver bullet for this project one but make it into casino for big project which again. The entire the teen Acre complex and can bill that in this day and age. About not going to be possible so our architectural and planning committee has really broken down on the project into five areas. Which which can be the developed independently of each other as bonding and as -- needs of the community become available.
The money mentioned so far -- is 75. Million dollars were all the money be coming from.
Well we're looking for funding sources right now we understand that it's going to be mixes a private and public monies that come forth. We have had a variety of different developers come and take a look for example at the iconic office tower. Which is it really remarkable shape that you could -- easily be used. Four different types of residential space.
How much public monies involved Marty it's one of those issues everybody wants to know up front.
Sure at this point we don't have a number of public monies we are going after developers first and foremost. And seeing where where areas that the community can support the project unlike other projects in town. That the central terminal operation corporation is a not for profit ago we are the community we are the public SuSE. We've been entrusted with this public asset now for about twelve years. To really maintain the decay. At this point were ready to move forward with these various aspects of the plan.
75 million dollars almost seems like not enough money to pull off what -- trying to accomplish their -- let me ask you this. Would it be easier to accomplish a project of this magnitude. If the terminal were not located where it is.
Well the same reasons why the terminal was built that allocation in 1929 of the same reasons why it's important to that you have an eighteen Acre complex. Only 2.2 miles from. From Niagara square you're not gonna find that much. Space development ready space in the downtown core Childers with plenty of opportunities for expansion whether it's uses light industrial business. Use or less potential connecting into the main line of the railroad which is still there are just outside the building. To connect high speed rail with New York City and Chicago. It's that they it was put their worries and our -- spent many years developing that reason that's why we're confident. At this site is going to Libyan incubator for -- future.
So -- under this plan and the central terminal would be a -- again.
It was only design transportation hub that was the primary transportation hub for fifty years. And I think that's our goal it's become sort of an unofficial we had hundreds of thousands of people. Come through this building even -- in its current state. For various festivals for wars architecture or talks even for things like big mistake. In October best but we're moving the project now into what a model real escalation. And re used and we've assembled. A very talented group of professionals -- volunteering their time. To make this project a reality.
An all volunteer board Marty will continue to follow us thanks for the time this when we appreciate it. Great good luck and the effort Marty -- as media relations coordinator for the central terminal restoration corporation. Check out WB EN dot com this morning for a behind the scenes photos. Of the central terminal and we've just added. Bunch of new photos to from a 1969. Visit to the terminal by her own -- Harris.
