Yeah. These days and weeks and justice and national conversation happening here's your host. Good morning America's Robin Roberts. Welcome again everyone. ABC news headquarters employ a lot of discussion and what your what your doing it it's a commercial break but I know we're doing here. And we are going around we're talking to each other and and just related that discussion continues and continues. Trade on Martin's that's who we're talking about primarily and he left his home because it was halftime. He was a sports fan a sports world has also come out. We saw the Miami Heat. All the team together in their hoods and Stephen -- Smith is here with us from. ESPN. Steve -- -- she still play out for that. That you have been you have been waiting patiently and for you that's not easy -- -- unit that is not. We have seen the sports world and sometimes. Athletes have been criticized for not being more socially. Active what have you seen after this case. Well the wade LeBron James Miami organization stepped up its support. Then in this report. Says its own -- we go. They've they've stepped up and support our car when it works of -- Helen. They've stepped up support. Wait wait in the plays plays together and all of them put hoods or what have you. You know and obviously an obvious support for trade on March and they think it's an absolute tragedy I think it's a case of stereotyping and and racial profiling and you know a lot of people in the black community obviously have cold side when I've appointed actions. I'll simply because it's Reyes that I get an opportunity to see athletes stand up for something in this day and time they just don't do what this is not sixties is not the seventies. A lot of times you know when you look at in terms of advertising and marketing dollars in marketability him boring and they think it's something that could ultimately compromise them and because of that there bit apprehensive. About step and follow its Abu have a political do you think there will continue to we'll favored needs to be seen. I don't I don't know that. It's and I don't I think it is an opportunity I think it is an opportunity is no doubt about that but he gains. At some point in -- they're going to be confronted about the big elephant ruled that some of them are not going to want to address we've had a very lively discussion in the night. And there is no doubt about that is not a single word that I've heard that by anybody. That has been wrong but let's be honest about something we while we all can look at this case and questions. A lot of things that go and look at this individual mr. Zimmerman say at the very least he should have been arrested because seventy yield on -- ways decade. At the same time once you get beyond that and we start gaining -- problems that -- to a community. You have to deal with. What's going more in our communities -- we're doing a lot damage. To each other. And when you are a black athlete you out the you'll receive the level of support that these athletes receive from bills with an old community. -- that you got to turn around each light when he inequities that take place in our community that are instigated by offs. And then all of a sudden it becomes a bit more problematic and it's something that they don't want to touch. What you can't really resolved the problem without attacking that part of the problem and they've got to have the guts to do that and I'm not sure they do. I know you you'll you'll keep on them and others will absolutely on that want to stay here with what the conversation but also we we saw -- churches reverend John Jenkins gonna join us now and possibly be -- they'd be Bernard. As gonna join us as well to in this discussion and and reverend -- let me let me start with you first we saw. I congregations. Why black. A mosaic. Standing up these last few weeks together this is this is a moment that can unite us or divide. It is indeed and some of the things I noted while we're on break is that very few. Anglo Americans are in this round here for this broadcast. And one of the things that needs to happen is that more of them need to be in this conversation. And we invited -- I told you this in the break and and was talking to Matalin about this as well as she was very brave to save the things that she did about her -- teacher. And that there is a -- there's a fair and I can understand this that if you talk about race especially if you are. Caucasian or you are not black that you're gonna be labeled a racist. And that you have to be able to us were talking and and and help with saints -- have to be able to be truthful we have to have this discussion. And it includes all races but you wanna see more here and we wish that more had come. That's right I'm part of a very inclusive. Congregation. Racially inclusive. And so we talk about race routinely. And racism. And would be my wish that more countries has across this country would be having those conversations. Looking at both themselves in the world. Because many whites in this society have no clue about the black experience here. And we need to help those people come out and learn what this is about. And this is a white man saying I mean you are saying this kind. -- -- very powerful. Pastor Bernard Robinson yeah bank accounts. Two assistants. Two homes one problem even with the ozone is checked the Pope -- stop them with no respect. Those words from a song that was done in 1999. Memos that. And Q tip was part of that. And it speaks to the reality the greater reality Stevens talking about what's going on internally and black community has to be addressed but externally. The reality is that no matter how educated and upload them upwardly mobile. A young black male becomes he still lives haunt him. By the reality that -- suspect because of the color -- What do we do that and that's the truth that we have to -- it. How do we -- would it begins here with compensation. It begins holding. Not just the black community but the white community responsible. For. Being naive in thinking that they can be at ease because everything is resolved because of the black president and everything's changed. That is it I have a dear friend of mine who lives in California. And he always tells me something that I've dispute over the radio many many occasions. Talk about the issue in his as we know the problems that permeate throughout communion throughout this country. One it thinks he's always very popular missing is today as in fairness. There is pleased with the judge picks. And that's what he says. There is no such. And when you deal that's one thing to deal with the ideals about the way -- should be. It's another thing to deal with the way things off and work from that position. Moving full try to alleviate some problems that really pampering damage our community you can't Begin to deal with that. If you're stuck in the deal about the way they should be you don't pay yourself to deal with the way things and Steve we -- about twenty seconds left though. He says the question -- -- what we do I think he's after about the conversation but we can also look to examples of of of individuals and groups. That have sought to deal with prejudice. And different ways for instance the the gay community around HIV and aids issue they sought to -- and the stigma around man and they they were very effective is -- in your face of we have to continue the conversation pass to Bernard. Q tip. Reverend things Mary Mary they were hailed here. So hard for everyone the students especially thank you having those all important. Conversation. Race and justice -- national conversation. --
