And -- back this is Michael to Prudhoe I mean for Tom -- here on news radio. 930 WB and -- off until next week -- You'll hear from him again on Monday we have one quick call we had a caller call in on the Ukrainian. Issues that we were discussing I want to make your -- -- from buffalo on one annual thank you for waiting. The -- and he did a great jobs but in a very complex situation. If I could just put more perspective on the complexity eldest. Under questionable why at this stage of the time in the lemon still stand 22 years after independence. You know that the the heart of Ukraine have been under Russian occupation for 315 year. In after that payment of 1933 -- seven million people died. The Communist regime Beck told allowed the ability and so on -- ethnic Russian run which about 20% of the population now. Sorted and Dugard divert public sister is what 199190%. Of the people look for independence. But that but that doesn't mean it terms of that happened right -- what you -- of -- -- -- And get a call which ones. Elected democratically but the bottom line is she's a criminal. He's a criminal open pass in turn today is an anti Ukrainian anti democratic. It is -- BP's literally stole billions of dollars. Every single one of those leaders have -- I mean I -- to a Shiancoe who is the opposition leader who's in jail I mean. Let's not forget she's a joke for reasons she stole to the fact is and I'm not upset that she's in jail about it's I'm upset that more of them aren't -- -- Well that may be true but it is it is after unprecedented. Industry amid -- -- encoded the former prime minister of by Ukraine. Then -- the prison in the US now for stealing. But that was part of the 350 year out struggle for independence monumental the I get the most important thing is if Ukraine in total up alone. There was probably things if you look at the way the protesters are conducting themselves you know they're polite. There undernourished or clean. There apparently here very little very little trouble they will resolve this issue themselves but you have -- outside influence public outside pressure. A very difficult to to come to a of the resolution to the bottom line is immediate and is that you don't join the EU -- audience about. Being part of Europe you know rule blog democracy transparency freedom. As opposed to being under the the traditional Russian that are authoritarian. Four and. And the will of the people is leaning towards democracy and agreements with the European Union and not the Soviet Union not Russia and you're exactly right. Follow the will of the people on this would be resolved in a heartbeat and there's going to be elections next year and on the -- Klitschko has talked about as a as a candidate and. And that world heavyweight champion Klitschko right as a real peace and -- -- and they don't what they on the big mall there I mean they're they're not just boxes from down the road these are. Hundreds of million -- mean there very well the guys elicit a no thank you for calling we're gonna. Where will listen will be doing more on Ukraine I hope -- -- thank you very much for calling -- the one thing we're gonna get over county politics here. Which is what you're an expert in as well as Ukraine that's defunct but here's the problem -- lose via. The comptroller here you don't say one thing here's what's going on right now. In Ukraine I can promise you because I got a call. America is sending. Independent contractors. Who speak Ukraine. Into -- in the square Americans. With cameras mixing them in. And trying to trying to you know nature -- -- organize to report back we got. I would say 35 to fifty Americans on planes right now who were dressed like ukrainians. And there are mixed into the crowd you know what that's gonna do. As gonna mess things for an amazing it's and that's the that's the tone -- nature of the State Department under Barack Obama leave him alone. -- Malone everything is going to be fine well maybe not but anyway I don't trust Barack Obama and. Well certainly and that's why I think it's important to from -- -- faith based perspective for a spiritual perspective than ever when -- and then polish community Ukrainian community please just keep them in their. In our thoughts and prayers and certainly everybody wants freedom and democracy its wind you know my film making the United States. In 1965. It's like public service is important to me in being a public servant and I am working in county government. And again at that -- I really wanted to win so badly last year Michael from debt. From my title from my father. To honor our Ukrainian heritage in the fact that you know deep provided so much for me. And gave me so when he gets that they never experienced living under a Communist regime mean literally living. Under an iron fist -- -- I don't care for it sounds corny I mean we live in the greatest country in the world. Absolutely and you know what we apparently have the greatest budget in the world -- How that effort a transition one point four billion dollars and it did but it's it's green like there's no fight. It's our guys are supposed to fight you're supposed to pull each other's hair ripped out -- -- It's incredibly unfortunate that the budget in 2014 past the -- is beat because it kicks the can. On our pension bill which we mean by the county basically instead of making this up more than eight million dollar payment it's a pension part of our pension -- -- do right now. With a county executive is doing is kicking the can't. Almost the equivalent of taking out a mortgage. Spreading out over ten years. And tax payers are going to be in the hole for 2.3 million dollars in additional interest payments. For. -- forcing taxpayers in 20/20. Four. To pay attention build its -- right now at network they didn't betray and exactly. It's what led to bankruptcy. In Detroit in the federal courts made a recent ruling it doesn't really impact Erie county to wait does Detroit. And the unions are up in arms because now a federal judge ruled. That when it comes -- paying back its obligations. That basically. They're the pensions for union employees. It can take it back burner -- or other obligations. And so why are our benefits package for our workers I think the world of our union workers. They're in my office and office controller do you work incredibly hard. But we need to provide benefits. That respect tax payers and at the same time. Honor and recognize the hard work -- union workers -- but we cannot tax Erie county residents anymore the -- over tax we need to cut. And out and do exactly what families at home doing. It's so simple Michael. Massage acupuncture one point four million dollars over four years the county workers received in massages and acupuncture. Ridiculous. We should be doing exactly what people at home or doing. Living within their means and paying their bills and massage each other people. It for one point four million dollars to county should do exactly was small business is -- Pay your bills on time endorsement money that you don't hint it's that simple. And I'm afraid it would county government that basically this budget. All it's doing is sticking a finger in the -- and at some point in time in the near future it's going to blow. Well the one thing about the Detroit ruling out of the Supreme Court it appears that obese. Public sector. Retirements these pensions are sacrosanct when the baby and I get to bring the public. Workers not anymore according to that federal -- ruling and that's gonna have an impact across the country. Hearing Erie county are pensions are guaranteed it's funded its through New York State bot. On and went as far as bankruptcies concern for Erie county never undermine it watch it will not happen. But if that did take place and you can talk about on health care for life for retirees the county and would be a position because of this federal ruling to say look. We're go to different -- Direction to pay our obligations right so it could have an impact on Erie county. But again I think it's so simple that the county needs to live with in its means it's with the field is at least or server doing home. And we should do the same respect. Tax -- not burden them anymore with higher taxes and live within our means and if you have to make tough decisions. You do. Families at home if they don't have the money their budget. They're not going on extravagant vacations are buying fancy cars the government should be no different I listen. I know you disagree with county executive -- cars and a lot of things. On even on which -- -- for watching them today that we did we had lunch today and have the same deal you know doing the policy today and we split the cabinet that well I'll tell idea. I am impressed bit of the the date for what is this that the amendment in override session that's cancel. It's canceled in the legislature because. Everybody's in agreement on the Democrats and Republicans and by the way the split Democrats are all agreeing that this budget is fine this is. A remarkable I think it's it's there's a lot of comity in the in the will -- I do know that armed there's a conservative legislate -- independence. Legislate tore -- Republican led legislature tours. On that did oppose on the budget passed up by 65 vote. Com and we're all on the same page multiple political parties our biggest gripe was kicking the can and this pension paid. I mean it and in my public position I've stated it twice now officially in the record of the legislature that if the county. We could -- it's such. A big possibility that we could. Ran into revenue in the next few years maybe -- casino cash -- sales tax revenue will come in better than expected maybe there's an on Medicaid money that's coming into the county. We should pay that bill he neatly. We should not burdened taxpayers and 20/20 four. With a pension bill that is -- right now in Seattle people hardworking taxpayers of Erie county with an unnecessary. Interest payment of 2.3 million now. Right and and I think you know we we got so much. At stake here so much at stake it's not just a few but that our children our grandchildren paying these pensions. There's a lot more to it -- to get back to that just a minute here to get to the phones. This is Mike Brooks sitting with -- behind the contour of -- county were to be right back with you. Here on news radio 930 WB and don't forget our number is -- threes or 930 start I entered a result on we'll be right back. A year accurately forecast don't forget there is it lake effect snow warning from 6 PM this evening to 4 AM eastern standard time Thursday in southern Erie Wyoming should talk more and -- counties. Also lake effect snow advisory. In effect from 4 PM this afternoon at 1 AM. Wednesday in northern Erie and Genesee County this is Michael good -- here for Tom -- back on Monday. On news radio 930 WB and I'm sitting here with Stephane mine Lou the year county comptroller and we've. Got a -- it's been hang on for quite some time Steven from north Hala thank you for holding. Steven are you there. Yet he has failed. All real question. Here's a board golf. Well. The state should stay yours it will grow or not Europe here. No no not at all I'm not saying that I do believe. Bit a more intelligent president and a better foreign policy would do smarter things I don't trust Barack Obama to walk my dog. -- I'm I'm afraid that I'm afraid of the damage though do trying to be professionals. And playing with amateur talent. I agree. We lumber tonight gene therapy -- actual period horrible options. Warm at all. Although there perished ridge. -- -- -- -- -- -- They're all those people hired right. We know Steven thank you very much for -- you know that happens all the time the United States government. Is always making promises that they're not so let's have Republicans as well Democrats I'd just -- just feared that we're gonna have you know. But the that the all the talent and intelligence to -- -- -- Obama -- website all brought down on Ukraine. So it's what politicians -- -- it is exactly the politicians. While we have another caller here. -- OK Peter you on the -- Well welcome. Thank you are predators show. The Russians are all you can never trust the Russians see torture and you never be able to trust them. Because the birthplace of communism. A lot of -- leaders. Are all from the Kremlin and -- crew. Chief -- -- the monster reflect communism miserable. And they're building a -- up again below followed there are a couple of needing dying and they're coming back strong again. And HE Ukrainian Lichter and they built they specifically so that there reactors there. It is security chemistry. And -- blew up. Renewable it -- out in the Ukraine really put it. So wouldn't make him look in -- -- ukrainians were and make up and never be in there and it's very alert -- ukrainians severely from little flop. So thumbs in the Kremlin and a and -- in order so they have -- they have minorities those people -- would I would -- wouldn't trust the lock my dog either. Well Peter I was married to one like I'm I'm agreeing with you -- sent thank you very much on the were to be right back as the -- -- you're gonna stick around for a bit -- case to bomb I was gonna stick through. The break and come back after -- group of the thirty mark this is Michael -- in for -- hour here on these remind the WB and will be right back. It would grant. Michael driving forward Tom hourly here on radio -- thirty WP him here with the fumble -- the Erie county comptroller. We were talking about Ukraine but we are talking Martin County politics to get right back to carry politics we have. Andrew from buffaloes with Ukrainian congress coming in to thank you for calling on the air. -- I'm politics for. Andrew is not there he's probably got me on hold himself. -- in an Orchard Park your question. Yeah tighter -- -- after listening. For for a bit now offer them and Russell let's open our. I know there's discretion regarding pensions. And all these tensions were going to bill coming up but let's do it we're gonna take -- another law that taxpayers are sort of built for more interest. I have -- who got two statements or to question if you will. I'm always wondering why a no matter what level but especially in Western New York you always hear. Com government. Nobody talks about fighting. And trying to solve problems like going seeing where I mean it's obviously you are states. -- our taxes were were very bloated state. Yeah and what accounts for sanctions. I just think the public into what tests per say but. Going forward. Don't have the statistics in front of me but I know that we're very heavily. Public sector vs private sector with unions and so forth. And I in the private sector and are able 401K plan and I invest my own money into their plan and I take risk in their four. The stock market crashes. You know I'm gonna lose money -- -- RK with pensions if -- -- and pension. To taxpayers. Invest more to make sure that they are part pension guarantees and I just that as. Very very very far from any solution to. Having you know any kind of its flexible financial. You know anything in the future be successful. Government needs to be responsible and behave like the private sector in many respects. We offer benefit packages that are found nowhere. In the private sector. But they are found in the public sector and we need to respect tax -- And the absolute last resort you're absolutely right should be tax increase. I don't consider myself a politician I'm a public server I come from the private sector. This year I cut my own budget more than 500000. Dollars 17%. In reduction. I'm making my employees do more with less why that's what's happening in the private sector. My proposed a budget for 24 teen I cut my own budget again. By another 100000 dollars I drive my own beat up 99 Oldsmobile for work I don't take -- vehicle for county related business a pay for my own cellphone. And give more so called political leaders did that in respected taxpayers. -- treated government like a family treats their own family. -- book or small business treats their own payroll we'd be much better off. -- and also aired out of certain inherent. Well I think he's probably something he had some expertise in this here issue in this business the -- often. I don't know you know I'm not I don't ever see -- -- well going on. And try to recreate the you know I don't conference into the future -- an argument. Where you know -- it's it's an animal that's greater -- to vital problem of the taxpayer you guys work very hard you know I will -- the private sector. -- I have no problem your salary hasn't backed student you probably could use this -- so giving its expert with teachers' pension print and I think is it's. I have no problem that whatsoever it's it's due. But I would tell me oh well -- school district Beckham says Taylor and all they're your pension funds are taking ahead. And you guys all collectively or -- -- see individually a -- -- -- 50000 on average. Depending on how much a part within your pension fund we're gonna make sure that that's 50000 has replaced. And that's where that comes from taxpayers well I I don't agree with I don't agree with that at all I just think it's. What is that all persons gonna go ahead and take more interest out just to make people happy to make sure that they -- conscious of this themselves. But you know what the taxpayers get moved to it until the -- and there's you know why it's a new York state -- -- state that it's. Yeah absolutely you know what listen -- thank you very much for calling -- we've got a full load of phone calls or wanna get to them. A lot of people are concerned about the it was announced the retirement system centered economy. In fact Jim and Todd Wanda. You're calling -- -- returns right. Quarter -- where are you got it. That purple ball we cream shop Michael and I reporter people are. -- that your. State retirement. When nobody talking about. If they develop your ranking Cuomo got for. Things of why did. The sculptor or bought for your -- your exit and I've got to do in the next union got tricked. Yeah have been murdered right in your seven of course. You know I mean they're they're -- and another point of the art state retirement system. There's a statement. And I I've worked think that the statement that the New York State we permit system not work 150. Billion not million billion. Dollars when I mean need to be any injuries they are retirement system in the -- New York. It's the envy of the world because it's so carefully -- -- in every possible thing you can pick up for instance over when. Armed you know I was gonna pay up pensions the British baby boomers. This British Petroleum. Party that unions are so heavily invested over their oil company. I mean. It when do we need to live within our means absolutely positively yet. We've got a lot of roll in and that in recent giveaway telephone. Breast augmentation surgery taxpayer funded and I I think the world I really do think the world of of our union employees many work in my office they worked incredibly hard. As -- I don't see the private sector where employees are getting free lifetime health insurance. We can't afford any more we have to suspect taxpayers. But honor our obligations to. I think the -- and work. Here technical here you pay you work longer you pay more in everything. And and so. -- -- keep in mind I I was born in 1954. And the baby boomers we're gonna start to what we won't start to die off thinking numbers because -- -- year 2001. Well what we hit it. -- -- We're gonna start to die off familiar -- all pension problems really start up because contrary to popular figure. -- the baby boomers were election according to what Tom Brokaw on the History Channel and everything. But we're brightly we're gonna start to die off -- solve the problem. Jim I don't wish that on to but I I am I I totally get it you know we're we're front loaded take care you guys -- and and we're just gonna absolutely collapse on. But in one of the problems so nobody talked about fruit on the military -- thing about this. Collaboration went to war immediately after nine elevenths. Certain percentage of them have decided they had and make careers out of the military. In habitable but what yours and military action. Think he ever got what 223 years. And about another ten years. Both kids are gonna turn or -- -- pathetic thing. OK where's my -- yeah yeah I have to pay I mean when we ought to -- to work and credit card we recruit the political fight our wars for. But these days in a club when you -- pay -- -- -- right. Back for point nobody's gonna go to war fights for. Well Jim listen we got to go to break I gotta tell you that we get that we got a full load of telephone calls we got to get to. I really appreciate you call -- and but you know that's the fun. We got folks wanna talk to stick around we will get back these calls but at the end of at all. We look what happened to Wisconsin with the pension system and in fact that's a very left wing state in many ways. And it turned against the public unions that statement gets in fact -- of the government it tried to recall came back and want even more. Idealistic kind of pick -- happened -- the law. I hope not. And like I said I cannot stress enough how much I respect of the work the union employees do -- I was -- card carrying member mean many years ago when I was in the private sector. But we have to be realistic. About what we spend money and how much we have and we cannot afford. Anymore of these Cadillac contracts that offer benefits in the public sector that are not found in the private sector. While we're going to be right back or take a quick break here to pay the bills this is Michael Prudhoe. In for Tom hourly -- -- 930 WB and don't forget our telephone numbers in threes early -- are 930 in your cellphone callers hang on -- to get right terrier will be right back. Still unable to come in before he says -- This is Michael Caputo. In for Tom -- and -- review 932 -- sitting here. With stiff on behind the Erie county comptroller and the phones are loaded up with questions first -- on. Caroline's in Stark County the land of one of the greatest politicians -- great Edwards. -- -- Lieutenant governor sir -- Yet we travel all -- I think he's one of the best politicians government in former county executive in just. An incredible guy -- -- look like Carolina got a question for the. I'm going to let it go. Which averages 206 inches of snow a year so buffalo -- card is only half as much as react. If it happens it's going to help you get the -- Right now I ask this then that's that's whether that fun. May I ask of Medicaid question. Should. It's my understanding. And that about 45 states. Spread the cost of Medicaid. Only in two directions 50% said the 50% state. But New York is one of a handful that. Decreases the state amount to 25 and then that. Increases -- down -- the -- -- we mean this -- there's your people to. Thanks for right right increased county she. Dollar. Theory -- people make out of their property tax go straight Medicaid match. That is absolutely correct in Erie county and collect a little more than 200 million dollars in property tax revenue actually it's not our largest source of revenue. Our largest source of revenue. As a -- twenty plus million dollars in sales tax be yes if we have to it would have to pay that Medicaid payment. We could actually have. That's my questions of is. What can be done to get New York to not be one of the handfuls that does what I just described -- -- get up the phone and listen to -- on the air. Get rid of every single New York City Democrat that works in the assembly yet I have to return to like an old Soviet trick of ship him out. And tonight in your own people -- in next that's why we talk about being held hostage when it comes to state mandates we are forced. To pay this bill by New York State in its not fair. So can you imagine us justifiably. And the and you go back multiple county executives and you've heard the same. Argument that we shouldn't be paying this bill when -- she's actually correctly we had zero property tax and we have run up for them Medicaid payment. And it's -- I just -- I'm never going to listen to take a real quick break for trapped for those theories stuck in your car hold on. Mrs. Michael Capuano import Tom Allen reunited but you have to be and we'll be right back was -- on my hi Lou in just a moment. 45 degrees outside feels like ten degrees. -- in -- Tom Bauer earlier news review at 930 in WB and I'm here with on line. The Erie county come -- we've got -- calls in four or Stefani got -- you don't yours soon but. I wanted to get those questions in gym and Akron thanks for holding on your your WP and with -- -- I hate doing gym. Yesterday -- -- Got a question what's wrong. But it is there any possible. Private and so we're county jobs. And -- for example. That's a good question excellent question unfortunately we cannot do it with out on negotiating with the unions. I think it's a great idea I know that the town of Amherst did that with I believe their garbage collection. On municipalities would save a lot of money providing the same exact service and a lower cost I wholeheartedly agree. Now with allowing the private sector to provide the services at a cheaper cost but unfortunately. More than likely we would be sued he'd lose the lawsuit and then have to give those employees back pay and then go back to the public sector providing the services. April. Act. But chuck you got a question for Stephane. Great job. You -- chuck Callan. And I don't work with that are in the -- government and it's great CEO everybody outlook and network. He's on. He that ultimately. What a great job. And it Arnett the real quick what. Taking McCain's going to shoot low local municipalities. In the future for they're budget. I just I simply think it's absolutely ridiculous. That that the county refuses to pay our bills that are -- right now and they're going to force taxpayers to basically take out a mortgage. To simply pay a bill that's do right now you can't use a one shot gimmicks and tricks one shot revenue sources. To pay your bills. It would be the equivalent of using your savings account. To pay your bills eventually you're going to run out of money and my concern I've stated this before the control board before the legislature. On the county hasn't raise revenue in two years there's been increased spending and the use of these one shot gimmicks and tricks to balance the budget now we know. On a much larger scale this is what happened that led to the red green budget crisis I do not want the county to go down that road again period. Well thanks for cone did you really think -- -- It was -- upon. We really appreciate stuck around a lot longer management and in -- we want to really appreciate a lot of the thinking a lot of questions for. By news that on came on initially with and cooler also a Ukrainian American thank you -- for coming in talking about Ukraine's. Important to me important to both you and important to thousands upon thousands of polonium and thank you for all calls upon. You guys are off to the sabres game and I of course in here. Jewel in the barrel Lisa thank you very much for coming in John urea on the air with my computer here for Tom Bauer. Yes hi John I Dylan. I got me. I haven't gotten a little. They're not a question I was gonna statement and open -- -- -- -- -- -- are. You know he he had -- and are they about we have to pay our own but it stayed -- we're supposed to paperwork. Well -- -- Medicaid is if it's a combination of federal and and and and and state dollars to Cumberland county by the way and so. I mean it's it there where one of those few states that -- are able to drive up the county's share and drive down state chair it's. It's one of those exemptions New York. Yeah we'll open about the Medicaid how many millions of people aren't -- on Medicaid right now because that Republican governors like Texas and Florida. Refused via Medicaid expansion. Offered under the Affordable Care Act. Well I'll tell you this no less. Are on Medicaid because of that decision just not more. I believe at one point three million people in practice at one point one million people in Florida who would become eligible. To get health insurance via Medicaid. It did not vote rather -- a. That's that's that's it but but John honestly we we have the most lucrative we have the most lucrative Medicaid. In the country. We have our our Medicaid is double that of number two which is California. And you think that's better than Texas who -- to do what we've got too many people on Medicaid let's get a mop let's let's let's create jobs. Yeah well just. This -- -- good job as a Nina have health insurance well. Well I mean especially now. Especially now. And especially in acts that were warnings for people don't have medical insurance. And economic returns. You also including the illegal aliens in that number. That's the way that you're doing that's exactly what you're doing. But another thing that drives me crazy is. No other poll we should all go back all the public spectacle and offer pensions. -- respect anymore they used to being taken away is. You know there's a profit motive becomes more concerned about. And so being that -- used to be able working for a private company so instead of saying hey let's get these -- it. Companies -- pretty. Tensions. Like that you do people could have a decent retirement you guys they know the private sector goes into what. Take away from the -- should be jealous. Public employees who still have some kind of tension like I think the average pension of those people in Detroit firemen teachers cops. Right but but but John listen I'm I'm listen John John hello -- John listen well. I'm ought to hang on to laps of this this break we got to go pay the bills -- talked about the can you hold on a minute. All right great this is Michael brutal in for Tom Bauerle. We'll be right back after this message these messages on news radio and Internet WB.
